Thank you for your interest in my campaign!I can't wait to meet you.
My father moved to the US from Peru in search of a better life for himself and his family. I grew up in a biracial household and my parents were the first in their family to attend college. They taught me the importance of education, and gave me a life-long love of learning. I went on to pursue an education as an engineer. I have since worked across a variety of industrial and scientific fields, and this experience has taught me the value of being a holistic, long-term planner.Throughout my life I have witnessed friends and family suffer from mental illness, including my own brother’s suicide attempt when we were young teens. Watching loved ones suffer while facing stigma and struggling to access the care they need has profoundly shaped my worldview. Having seen firsthand how mental healthcare can transform circumstances and give people their lives back, I want to preserve access to these essential resources as we face a difficult budget in the coming years. As an avid birdwatcher and former member of Middleton's Parks Commission, restoring and preserving the green spaces in our community for the enjoyment of our families and future generations is a goal that I hold close to my heart. We must resolve the ongoing PFAS pollution at Dane County's Airport, and prepare the county for the escalating effects of the climate crisis to insulate us against our uncertain environmental future.
As a former Merchant Mariner, I worked as a supervising engineer onboard ships transporting cargo around the world. This included trips between ports in China and the USA, among others. After leaving the shipping industry, I worked for a construction company that designed and built industrial plants and pharmaceutical labs. During my time in that position I am proud to have helped build a cutting-edge cancer research facility as part of an expansion to an existing hospital. I would take this experience into a role as an equipment engineer at an FDA-regulatrd medical manufacturing facility. Today I work as a power plant operator, giving me an up close and personal view of the utilities that make our society work. This broad mixture of professional experience has empowered me to take complex problems and break them into simpler components that make developing complex solutions possible. My life has provided me with a unique perspective on the interlocking ways infrastructure and industry work together to give us the society many take for granted. It is these experiences that would make me a valuable member of the county board and I hope that with it I could help set our community up for long-term growth and success.
Dane County needs a county board committed to long-term thinking to solve our housing crisis and keep the county affordable as we continue to rapidly grow in population over the coming decades. As a young person, I am determined to combat the kind of short-term thinking that has gotten our budget to its current strained state. I feel there are opportunities to preserve the services our communities rely on while balancing the budget by looking for overlapping expenses.Progressive governance without fiscal discipline risks failing to deliver on what everyday people need; with how much there is on the line, failure is not an option. My Key Priorities for County Board:
Balance the budget while safeguarding the essential services our most vulnerable rely on.
Protect Dane County's natural environment and prepare us for the escalating effects of climate change.
Invest in keeping Dane County affordable and providing housing as we continue to have the fastest growth of any county in Wisconsin.
Projects I Want to Implement:
Cleanup and prevent future PFAS pollution at Dane County's Regional Airport.
Expand Madison's CARES program throughout Dane County so nobody has to be afraid to call for help during a mental health crisis.
